With pretty much each of their nine previous albums being dedicated to a historical exploration of war, there isn’t a sudden change of concept on album number ten: The War to End All Wars. Ninth studio record The Great War was released in July 2019 via Nuclear Blast. Written and recorded in 2021 during the COVID global pandemic, the band has crafted a concept album of 11 brand new songs that dive deep into previously. Sabaton have risen to a position of prominence in the power metal community, thanks to their catchy and technical brilliance and over the top stage show. In addition, official lyric videos were created for all 11 album tracks – ‘Sarajevo’, ‘Stormtroopers’, ‘Dreadnought’, ‘The Unkillable Soldier’, ‘Soldier Of Heaven’, ‘Hellfighters’, ‘Race To The Sea’, ‘Lady Of The Dark’, ‘The Valley Of Death’, ‘Christmas Truce’ and ‘Versailles’. Like many of Sabatons albums, it is a concept album. Also, a music video and separate animated story video was released for the song ‘Christmas Truce’. It is the first studio album to feature guitarist Tommy Johansson. Music videos were filmed for the tracks ‘Soldier Of Heaven’, ‘The Unkillable Soldier’ and ‘Race To The Sea’, while an animated video was issued for ‘Stormtroopers’. Sabatons special platinum edition of their Carolus Rex album celebrates the album going quadruple platinum in Sweden and commemorating 300 years since the death of the Swedish king who inspired it.
